Transform the way you live, love, and lead!
Robert Greenleaf defined Servant Leadership through his writings
and his life. Our
definition of a Servant-Leader constellates his key insights and,
in some cases, expands upon them:
“A Servant-Leader is a person of character who puts
people first. He or she is a skilled
communicator, a compassionate
collaborator who has foresight,
is a systems thinker,
and leads with moral authority.”
We have organized these major qualities and competencies of a Servant-Leader
into the Seven Pillars of Servant Leadership.
-Seven Pillars of Servant Leadership

Robert Greenleaf said that “Everything begins
with the individual,” and that’s where the Seven
Pillars begin—with individual beliefs, attitudes and
competencies. But our research has shown that each of the Pillars
is also expressed institutionally in organizations that follow
the principles of Servant Leadership.
